The powers of a port district are directly vested in its board of commissioners, or "commission." The port commission, like a city council, is the district's policy making and regulatory body responsible for making the discretionary policies and decisions of the district in both internal and external matters.
Examples are: the adoption of a plan of harbor improvements, establishing positions and employment policies; acquiring and disposing of property; constructing facilities; establishing rates, charges and regulations applicable to users of its facilities; adopting periodic and supplemental budgets; levying taxes; borrowing money and others.
The Commission of the Port of Port Townsend meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at the Hudson Point Marina Room, Port Townsend, Washington, and on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Tri-Area Community Center, Chimacum Washington. A workshop precedes the regular meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m.
Public notice of meeting locations or time changes can be found in the local newspaper, the Port Townsend Leader or here on this site. |
